Being a team member for Wallop Film

What I love about my work, is that every day is different, and it seems no limits when it comes to what I do.  As a versatile makeup artist, some days I'll be at a nice hotel beautifying a bride for her big day.  On other days you might find me working out of my mini van in the park or at an obscure warehouse trying to make someone look ill for their role on film.  These are the type of days I am working with Wallop Film.

After meeting the young and vibrant film maker Martin Glegg on the set of a commercial film, I've had the chance to work the talented team at Wallop Film on numerous projects (which include clients such as the Canadian Cancer Society, the Blue Cross, BOSA properties and TED).  They are just a cool bunch...down to earth, hard-working, and excellent at what they do.

I feel so honored and grateful that they've included me as part of their team as in-house MUA.  My work with them is always exciting and different.  One of my highlights was getting individuals camera ready at the 2016 TED conference.  The energy was exhilarating and the people I met were unforgettable.  It is always a joy to go along with Wallop!  Check out their webpage for beautiful film work and to see my profile pic on their about page ;)

The best time of year to shop for makeup is now!

It is that glorious time of year again, when all of the Christmas displays go up, grocers stock their shelves with delightful seasonal treats, and cosmetic companies present their best- Christmas gift sets!  The week after Halloween is when I head straight to MAC and Sephora.

I can't resist Christmas gift sets for a number of reasons:

  • They are really good value!  Often, you are getting several products for free, or are paying a lot less.  Take the gorgeous MAC brush set this year.  For five brushes you are paying $59.50 CAD, that works out to $12 a brush, AND it comes in a glitzy makeup bag, perfect for travel.
  • The Christmas sets are gorgeous and often include the limited edition sparkly holiday colors that might be too flashy any other time of year.  Cosmetic companies go all out.  The boxes and packaging can be exquisite!
  • Some products come in travel or mini sizes, which is a great way to test out the variety of products before committing to future full-size products.  Often I will try all of the contents of a value set and determine which products will go in my professional makeup kit the following season.

It is a makeup artist's dream to play around with new colors and textures.  This year I purchased Glo Skin Beauty's Leave your mark Crayon box $119 CAD, Sephora's Prime Set and Go $50, and Sephora's Ready Set Style $39, which includes 5 travel styling sprays from different brands.  Nothing is more exciting than trying out and playing with these new products! (Maybe I'll do a review in the future!  Insert winking smile emoji)

Whether shopping for yourself, or for gifts, I wouldn't wait too long to purchase these sets.  Once they sell out, there is usually no replenishment.  I've also noticed less options as we get closer to Christmas!  Happy shopping and happy holidays!
